On January 10, 2025, the Ministry of Science and Technology coordinated with the People's Committee of Can Tho City and Can Tho University to organize a scientific conference "Implementing the Science and Technology Program to serve the goal of achieving emission levels net zero in Vietnam for the Mekong Delta region”. GREEN TECHNOLOGY AND REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS CONTRIBUTE TO IMPLEMENTING THE NETZERO GOAL
The Net Zero science and technology program is one of the timely actions of the Ministry of Science and Technology to implement the direction of the Party, the Government, and the Prime Minister on building a national program to serve the goals of the Ministry of Science and Technology. target to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
This program not only goes hand in hand with existing national programs but also focuses on breakthrough scientific and technological solutions, especially green technology and greenhouse gas emission reduction, contributing to the implementation of commitments. of Vietnam at COP26 Conference.
A prominent new feature of the program is the implementation method based on a "targeted approach", mobilizing maximum resources and intelligence from the business community, research institutes, universities and government agencies. countries to address specific national goals.
The NetZero science and technology program aims to develop carbon capture and storage technology, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and green technology in industries and fields (industry, agriculture, services... ). Along with that, propose green economic models, circular economy, policy and legal solutions to promote NetZero suitable to Vietnam's conditions.
Through the program, emissions will be significantly reduced, the environment improved, and biodiversity protected; promote innovation, create jobs in the field of green technology and improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese businesses.
According to Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat, the Mekong Delta is facing serious challenges due to climate change. This is the area most heavily affected by rising sea levels, saltwater intrusion, landslides and extreme changes in weather. These challenges not only threaten the livelihoods of millions of people but also seriously affect socio-economic development and food security of the whole country.
The Minister said that the Ministry of Science and Technology has coordinated with agencies, organizations, scientists, and experts to build and implement the national Science and Technology Program KC.16/24-30 to serves NetZero goals. This is a timely action, demonstrating Vietnam's strong commitment to implementing the goals committed at COP26.

EMISSION REDUCTION IS A PRIORITY, AN IMPERATIVE
According to experts, the NetZero commitment is necessary to minimize the negative impacts of climate change and promote the transition to a green, sustainable economy. As a country with great ambitions in the NetZero strategy in Asia, Vietnam pledges to reduce emissions by 43.5% by 2030. Therefore, reducing emissions is not only a priority but also an urgent national imperative.
To realize the goal of net zero emissions by 2050, Vietnam will face many challenges and difficulties that need to be resolved. In particular, close coordination between government levels, businesses, scientists and people is a key factor that needs to be promoted.

As one of the five cities heavily affected by climate change, Can Tho constantly promotes propaganda and education, creating unity in awareness and action on proactively responding to climate change. To proactively respond to extreme phenomena of climate change and ensure increasingly sustainable socio-economic development goals, Mr. Hien said Can Tho has proactively updated its Action Plan. Responding to climate change in the period 2020-2030 with a vision to 2050; Integrate climate change into the Development Plan of each industry and field; Pre-feasibility study on developing climate risk insurance solutions.
