During the week of October 20-24, the British Embassy in Hanoi and the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City organized a visit by the British Energy Trade Delegation to Vietnam.

The delegation of 17 typical British businesses in the supply chain of offshore wind power, green hydrogen and energy storage had 5 working days in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to explore market opportunities and make conclusions. connect with potential partners.

This is the second consecutive year that the British Energy Trade Delegation has visited Vietnam, following the success of the visit in November 2023.

Businesses in the delegation, led by British Deputy Trade Commissioner for Southeast Asia Rhiannon Harries, participated in the Green Economic Forum & Exhibition 2024 organized by the European Chamber of Commerce ( EuroCham Vietnam).

This is also the first year the UK officially participated in the Forum, with a display stand organized by the British Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam alongside a number of other European countries.

At the forum, experts in the fields of renewable energy, green finance and sustainable agriculture from the UK contributed experiences and initiatives to Vietnam's green economic development process. .

According to British Deputy Trade Commissioner for Southeast Asia Rhiannon Harries, climate change is a global challenge that requires common solutions from global partners. Vietnam has set a clear goal to accelerate the renewable energy transition process. This has been clearly stated in Power Plan VIII (PDP8) with the goal of developing offshore wind power to reach 6GW.

"The UK is confidently well placed to support Vietnam's clean energy ambitions. We currently have the largest offshore wind market in Europe, and the second largest in the world," Pho Cao Commissioner Harries expressed.

"Attending GEFE 2024, the UK strengthens its commitment to becoming a trusted partner of Vietnam on the energy transition journey. The British Embassy, ​​British Consulate General and British Chambers of Commerce in Vietnam always ready to support the UK-Vietnam partnership in every stage.”

In addition, the delegation also had bilateral working sessions with industry partners who are businesses that play an important role in the clean energy development process in Vietnam such as Vietnam Electricity Group - EVN and Vietnam Oil and Gas Group - PVN aims to explore cooperation opportunities.

In addition, the delegation also participated in sharing experiences with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam at the Workshop "The UK shares experiences in the field of project development and supply chain for the offshore wind power industry" which was agreed upon. Organized by the British Embassy in Hanoi, with the participation of relevant ministries and agencies.

The conference demonstrates the UK's commitment to becoming a reliable partner of Vietnam in the energy transition process, while also opening up bilateral trade opportunities.

The UK appreciates Vietnam's commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 as well as its target of installing 6GW of offshore wind power by 2030. "The British government has always been Vietnam's partner in the energy transition process," Consul General Smith shared. "We are always actively promoting the Fair Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) to come into practice soon, promising to bring in 15.5 billion USD of investment in energy transition projects in Vietnam.
