At the Government press conference on the afternoon of June 3, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai shared about the lack of electricity and renewable power projects that are not in the planning.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has directed to increase coal production for power supply and regulate coal supply to increase coal volume for power generation by about 300,000 tons for May and about 100,000 tons for each subsequent month (June, July); an increase of 18% in gas supply in the Southeast region and 8% in gas supply in the Southwest region for electricity production.
Regarding transitional renewable energy power plants, according to Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai, as of 5:30 pm on May 31, 2023, 7 projects with a total capacity of 430.22MW have officially been commercialized into the grid. In addition, 40 projects have been approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade with temporary prices.
59/85 projects with a total capacity of 3,389,811MW have submitted documents to the Power Trading Company to negotiate electricity prices and power purchase and sale contracts; of which 50 projects (total capacity 2,751,611 MW) have proposed temporary prices equal to 50% of the ceiling price of the price bracket (according to Decision No. 21/QD-BCT dated January 7, 2023, of the Ministry of Industry and Trade). EVN and the investor have completed the price negotiation and signed off on the power purchase agreement (PPA) with 46/50 projects.
However, there are still 26 transitional power plants (with a capacity of about 1,346MW) that have not yet submitted documents to EVN for electricity price negotiation.
