Singapore may import Vietnam's offshore wind power by 2035

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tan See Leng highly appreciated the commitment of the Vietnamese Government to the netzero target by 2050 and said that the Singapore Government also committed to the same.

Mr. Tan See Leng also discussed the potential of cooperation between Singapore and Vietnam, in connecting the power grid. The Singapore side has set up a working group to work with Vietnamese ministries and agencies on the issue of grid connection between the two countries. At the same time, it is committed: The state agencies of Singapore will support and step by step remove difficulties and obstacles in the cooperation process and implement the pilot project.

Regarding the grid connection between Vietnam and Singapore, EVN has directed Electricity Consulting Construction Joint Stock Company 2 to coordinate with Sembcorp to study the feasibility of the project. The support of the state management agencies of the two countries is a very important factor in the research and implementation of this cooperation project.

At the meeting, leaders of the two sides expected that by 2035 it would be possible to connect the power grid between Vietnam and Singapore and Singapore could buy offshore wind power from Vietnam.
